Teacher and Leader Support
Research shows that effective teachers and leaders are the two most important school resources for improving student learning.
- Support for Common Core
- Teacher and Leader Evaluation
- Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers
Support for Common Core
Common Core provides a meaningful opportunity to tailor instructional practice to support growth for all students. Teachers can rely on professional development and related resources to create engaging lesson plans that support mastery of knowledge and skills.
Teacher and Leader Evaluation
The goal of teacher and leader evaluation systems is to improve educator effectiveness, resulting in greater student achievement and higher graduation rates. Evaluation systems also provide meaningful feedback and helpful information that supports teacher and leader decision-making in schools and classrooms.
The DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), in partnership with Thurgood Marshall Academy, is working to create a unified teacher evaluation system for all DC public schools. Read more about the creation and goals of the DC Model Teacher Evaluation System here.
Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers
DC is transitioning to new Common Core aligned assessments created by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). Learn about what this means for educators and the timeline for implementation on the PARCC page.
